Anechoic Room

A room lined with sound-absorbing wedges to create free-field conditions for precision acoustic measurement and product testing. Available as full anechoic or semi-anechoic with a reflective floor.

Anechoic Room
An anechoic room is a specially designed acoustic environment that minimizes sound reflections, allowing engineers to measure and analyze the sound emitted by a product with high accuracy. Specialized acoustic foam wedges or absorbers are installed on the walls, ceiling, and, in a fully anechoic room, the floor to absorb sound energy rather than reflect it. The room structure also provides acoustic isolation from external noise, while temperature and humidity control can be incorporated to support stable and repeatable testing conditions. By minimizing sound reflections and controlling background noise, an anechoic room creates an environment that approximates free-field conditions, enabling engineers to characterize product noise, identify sound sources, and evaluate acoustic performance under controlled conditions.

Why test in an anechoic room?

Why test in an anechoic room?

Outdoor and conventional indoor testing environments can be affected by wind, weather, background noise, and sound reflections from surrounding surfaces. A properly designed and qualified acoustic test room helps reduce these influences, improving measurement consistency and supporting reliable product evaluation.
Designed to your specification

Designed to your specification

SP Sonic designs and supplies anechoic and hemi-anechoic rooms to meet different testing requirements, with design options for cut-off frequencies of 100 Hz, 125 Hz, or 250 Hz and target background noise levels of 20 dBA or lower, subject to project specifications and verification.
Measurement to international standards

Measurement to international standards

Our solutions can be designed to support sound power level measurements in accordance with ISO 3745, which specifies precision methods for anechoic and hemi-anechoic rooms, and ISO 3744, which specifies engineering methods for sound power measurements in an essentially free field over a reflecting plane. The applicable standard depends on the test room configuration, qualification results, measurement procedure, and intended application.
Where anechoic rooms are used

Where anechoic rooms are used

From automotive, aerospace, and electronics to home appliances, telecommunications, industrial equipment, and university research laboratories, anechoic and hemi-anechoic rooms help engineers evaluate acoustic performance, identify noise sources, investigate noise-related issues, and develop quieter, more efficient products.

Tailored to your product

With solutions tailored to your product dimensions, frequency range, background noise requirements, and applicable testing standards, SP Sonic helps create reliable acoustic testing environments that support product development, quality assurance, and research.
